Ayurvedic Herbs
Amalaki-rebuilds and maintains tissues; increases red blood count; strengthens teeth & bones; helps heal inflammation of stomach and colon; contains high amount of vitamin C; primary ingredient of triphala and chywanprash; tonic for the pitta or fire humour.
Ashwagandha-has been called Indian "ginseng;" good for general debility and nerve exhaustion; regenerates hormonal system and acts as an aphrodisiac; heals tissues; helps generate energy when fatigued from overwork and lack of sleep; can be used externally on wounds; also for multiple sclerosis and chronic diseases.
Arjuna-primary "heart herb" of Ayurveda; hemmorrhages, diarrhea, dysentery, heart disease, fractures, skin diseases.
Bhringraj-(eclipta) medicine for the hair, including premature balding and graying hair; rebuilds bones and teeth; supports hearing and memory; liver maladies including: enlargement of liver and spleen, cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis; skin diseases; insomnia and mental disorders.
Bibitaki-strong laxitive, cleanses and tones the bowels; used as a gargle for sore throats; strenthens the voice and vision; primary ingredient of triphala; tonic for kapha or the phlegm humour.
Bola-(myrrh)-reverses the aging process; removes stagnant blood and supports smooth menstruation; menopause; cough and asthma; arthritis and rheumatism; traumatic injuries; antiseptic and heals tissues.
Brahmi-(gotu kola) good for nervous disorders; rejuvenates the brain and nervous system; strengthens memory and promotes longevity; calms the mind and helps create a meditative state; good for skin diseases.
Guduchi-a bitter tonic; blood purifier; stimulant; helpful in eye conditions, tissue builder, prevents premature aging
Guggul-rheumatism, arthritis, gout, nervous disorders, obesity, bronchitis, ulcers; helps lower cholesterol and metabolizes fat.
Haridra-(turmeric)-anti-inflammatory; liver complaints; stimulates flow of bile from gallbladder; gallstones; poor digestion; poor circulation; stops bleeding; antibiotic and cleanser.
Haritaki-cough conditions, asthma, abdominal distension, tumors, malabsorption, skin itching, hemorhoids, nerves; primary ingredient of triphala; tonic for vata or the air humour.
Manjistha-blood purifying; cools and detoxifies blood; disolves obstructions; stops hemorhage; removes stagnant blood; good for difficult, painful or stopped menstruation.
Shardunikha-(gurmar)-destroyer of sugar; good for diabetes, as blood sugar level controller.
Shitavari-rejuvanitave for the female reproductive system; sexual debility; menopause; chronic diarrhea and dysentery; stomach ulcers; stiff joints; coughs; chronic fever.
Vacha-(calamus)-stimulant, nervine; for loss of memory; enhances awareness and sensitivity; helps increase cerebral circulation; neuralgia; stroke; also good for nasal polyps; deafness.
Ayuverdic Remedies
Sitopaladi-colds, mucous, catarrh, coughs, respiratory affections, mild fever, acidity, and infants with hepatic disorders.
Tritkatu-(Three Spices Sinus Complex-Planetary Formulas); digestive tonic & aids assimilation, rejuvenator, reduces mucous, stimulant for colds and acute conditions, sinus congestion.
Triphala powder & tablets-non-habit forming laxative, tones the colon, lowers cholesterol, aids in weight loss, nervous system tonic, antiinflammatory, tissue detoxifier, tonic for dryness; contains bibitaki, haritaki and amalaki.
Mahasudarshan-liver disorders, diseases & enlargement of liver and spleen, fever, weak digestion, back pain and constipation.
Mahayograj Guggul-an alchemical formula that contains guggul and triphala; rheumatoid arthritis, MS, parkinson's, nervous disorders and other degenerative diseases.
Garlic-Guggul Raj compound (CholestGar-Planetary Formulas); garlic and Yogaraj Guggul formula; helps lower cholesterol; arthritis, gout, nervous disorders, epilepsy, obesity; antiseptic.
Triphala Guggul combination-a preparation to which we sometimes add turmeric, guduchi, brahmi or other herbs; blood purifier, antiarthritis, antibiotic, cleansing for the skin and liver, builds the tissues, antiinflammtory, relieves stagnation.
Hingshtak-asafoetida formula (Candida Digest-Planetary Formulas); promotes digestion, for candida albicans, stimulant, relieves gas and bloating, antispasmodic.
Chywanprash-super tonic with amla fruit and 40 herbs cooked down into a potent paste: for weakness, libido, fatigue, builds vitality and strength, antioxidant.
Ghee-clarified butter: used in cooking but also good for external application or may be mixed in milk with powdered herbs.
Chai tea- ginger root, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, pepper, orange peel, licorice root, black tea: improves digestion, helps remove mucous, increases circulation.
Yogi Tooth Powder-a formula to improve gum and dental health. Rub onto gums after brushing teeth. Helps heal gingivitis, loose teeth, bleeding gums.
