Reiki is an energy healing method from Japan. It is a type of palm healing or laying on of hands. Reiki means "universal life energy." In Reiki, the practitioner lays hands on the surface of the body in certain patterns. This helps balance the chakra system, the organs, and the meridians, which are life energy channels.
Most clients experience deep relaxation during a Reiki session. A sense of well being and sometimes healing is reported by both clients and practitioners. In a Reiki session, the client usually lies fully clothed face up on a massage table. Marla Taylor, LMT
